What is enough?

Ten years ago I wrote a book. It was called Enough?!.

In part one - Enough? - I explored the cultural story of 'enough' and how we've perpetuated a narrative of always wanting more, needing more, having more, doing more …and yet never reaching a sense of achievement and calm, as there's always more to achieve. Nothing is ever - nor will ever be - enough in this story of success.

In part two - Enough! - I explored the need for us to slow down, rethink and reframe our stories, as our 'endless growth on a finite planet' was taking us to catastrophic levels of destruction of ourselves, our communities and the rest of the natural world. This was a call to put on the emergency brakes.

In part three - Enough. - I explored balance, and the invitation to live lightly, with our qualities of being and doing sitting in healthy balance with those of each other and the wider natural ecosystems around us.

Ten years on, I remain just as fascinated by this quality of 'enoughness' and how we can find within us the peace to create our own. It seems when we measure through the judgement or perception of others, then the limits are endless and never can be achieved, yet when we measure through our own appreciation of grace, enough is abundant in all of our actions, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem.

Whilst the book remains on my computer, the questions and explorations remain very much in the ether; like supportive friends gently tugging my attention to keep on keeping on along the journey into finding enoughness.
