What should education look like in the time of a planetary emergency
This is the big, bold and necessary question being asked by the The Heschel Center for Sustainability in their programme working alongside Government ministers, Headteachers, CEOs in Education leadership and NGOs.
This is a powerful question, and much more impactful than “How shall we teach about climate change?” Whilst recognising that teaching about climate change is an essential part of all learning, there is strong recognition amongst this collective from Israel of the need to transform education to meet the challenges and opportunities of our VUCA world.
I recently ran a seminar with the cohort, sharing thoughts and teachings on how nature's wisdom and neuroscience can help pave the way for sustainable futures. Here are some of the questions we explored:
What does this look like?
What sort of learning competencies do we need for a thriving future?
How can we transform education from the inside out?
The workshop was recorded and is available for anyone to view (see below). I look forward to continued peer learning with this group of educators to share research, insight and best practice across our networks as we work together to transform education.
